Auberge "la
Louisiane"
Auberge La Louisiane is located at the northern tip of the island of St. Louis, on the banks of the Senegal River with an unparalleled view of the Senegalo-Mauritanian islands and the fishing villages of the Langue de Barbarie. This ideal setting is both quiet and safe. Since the island of St. Louis is only a mere 2.3 km long and 300 meters wide, the auberge is a quick 10 minute walk from downtown.
Auberge La Louisiane consists of two primary buildings (the Main building and the Annex) that are 20 meters apart. The Main building boasts 8 Superior Rooms (Category A), while the Annex contains 6 Category B Rooms. The categories are determined based on the room’s lay-out/amenities and its view. Every room, however, is equipped with a private shower and toilet, mosquito netting, and a fan. In addition, some rooms are air-conditioned. Room amenities include towels, soap, sheets, and comforters. Breakfast and all other meals are served in the Main building’s dining area.

Our Tips for a Successful Trip to Senegal
-
Formalities :
a valid passport – no visa necessary . Please consult the Senegalese Consulate in your home country for latest travel info.
-
No Mandatory Vaccinations :
Yellow fever vaccine and anti-malarial drug called Savarine (costs an arm and a leg, but prevention is always better!) recommended in addition to mosquito spray and/or citronella scent. Avoid spending loads at the pharmacy …most medications are available in Senegal

- Climate : There are 2 distinct seasons
- The rainy season runs from July to October and is also known as “the hivernage.” Precipitation levels vary from region to region. St. Louis has a very pleasant rainy season: with greenery, warm ocean water, and temperatures hovering around 30°. This is definitely a great time to visit!
- The dry season (November until June) is somewhat remarkable due to the fact that there is a total lack of rain for 8 months. The dry season is also marked by more desert-like conditions and occasional sandstorms. Temperatures are cooler and even frigid (by our standards) at about 25° during the day and 15° at night. Anticipate shorts during the day and a light sweater and windbreaker for the evening.
- Transportation
- By Air : If possible, fly directly into St. Louis, with the Air Senegal International flight every Wednesday (from Paris)

-
Renting a car is highly discouraged because it’s a hassle and somewhat dangerous. However, if you prefer your independence, you can rent a city taxi for the day or a specific trip (e.g. Dakar to St. Louis for 37,000 FCFA).
