Auberge La Louisiane: A Potential Partner for Your Projects

Traveling in Africa is a wonderful opportunity to get involved because on top of unique cultural experiences, meetings and friendly encounters are inevitable.

You will certainly feel that the old Senegalese saying “The cure for people is found in other people” aka “Everybody needs somebody sometimes” holds true here.

The wealth of Africa is manifested in its energetic youth and the effervescence and “joie de vivre” of its people – despite omnipresent poverty and other hardships.

Your humanitarian aid will take on much more meaning in such a context, as one can’t help but be moved by the daily struggles and lack of basic essentials amongst African populations.

Even though Africa is poor, misery is far from the Senegalese mindset: “We are also rich in misery...” Antoine de St Exupéry

Helping others is a wonderful way to help ourselves…

For your consideration:
In forgetting the South, we end up losing our North

Auberge La Louisiane Contributes to Your Projects

Special reduced rates for organizations, NGOs, tourist groups, etc.(Room rates from 9 € per person)

La Louisiane traditionally works with a number of humanitarian organizations, especially in the following areas :

  1. A 10 % discount (rebate) on room rates is given to any organization, NGO, or school group upon presentation of receipt and mission statement (this is only available with the meal package).

  2. A part of all the proceeds from the organized tours benefits local populations (typically 1000 FCFA/person).

  3. We have created a tourism development project in an area village (Makhana) with the idea in mind being to familiarize and educate the local people with their surrounding natural environment; to educate and prepare them for hosting tourists; to create employment and generate revenue for the community; and to aid in constructing a school and medical facilities. The “Cap sur Tundu Makhana” association is currently up and running, to the extent that we have been able to hand over daily management duties to local officials.

  4. Our close relationships with international organizations (such as Rotary,…) and a thorough knowledge of the regional and national cultures of Senegal are among the indispensable resources available at La Louisiane. We are happy to help with any questions.

We hope to enlarge upon and improve the following Humanitarian Charter, where humanitarian guidelines are the primary focus, with your help and participation..

THE HUMANITARIAN CHARTER

1 - I will not adopt an air of superiority or sympathy when working with local populations.

2 - I will strive to never do unto to others that which I would not have them do unto me.

3 - I will strive to study and understand the cultural and religious intricacies of the regions I’m helping

4 - I will strive to develop useful projects that aim for long-term sustainability (schools, medical facilities, youth centers, micro-businesses, women’s project financing, librairies, etc).

5 - I will not bring any gifts/material donations from abroad (such as medicines, pens, clothing, textbooks, etc) because the purchase of such materials on-site stimulates the local economy, and all of the aforementioned products are certainly available here.

6 - I will strive to include the local populations in any aid efforts.

7 - I will never try to impose a project without first having solicited local opinions or tested for local interest. “No interest = No aid”

8 - I will never lose sight of the fact that, in the eyes of the local people, I am an ambassador and representative of my country and region.

9 - I will try to make efficient use of all my humanitarian funds: No Humanitarian Business !

Friends, these are some reflections that I submit for your consideration, and I hope that, in return, you’ll be kind enough to make suggestions that will further discussion and help everyone achieve his or her goals.
